  • Google Works to Catalog Volumes from Major Libraries Around the World
Google, the popular search engine company, is attempting to make historical documents from the U.S. Library of Congress, as well as those found in the libraries of major universities around the world, archived online and freely searchable. Google has recently spent $3 million on the project, scanning in texts which are no longer covered under copyright laws. The project is an extension of Google's book search system, but is aimed at works deemed to be public domain. For more information on this project, check out http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2005/11/preserving-public-domain-books.html.

  • Winning E-Story Submitted by: Dave Adkins
Tonight, 12/20/05, we received a call from our son who lives in Branson. He and his wife Alisha are having a baby any day. Today, her doctor told her she would have to go to Springfield for a catscan to see if the baby has grown too large to have naturally. Alisha was in tears and wanted my wife and I to go with them to the testing center. I have never been to my son's place in Branson. We all know how confusing the highway system in and around Branson is. So, my son drew a map to his house and emailed it to me. There's no way we could have gotten that map without our NATCO Email. Thanks, NATCO, for being there when we needed you.

Dave Adkins just earned two free months of NATCO Internet service! Submit your E-Story today and you could be our next winner! Remember that you can enter more than once. So, if you didn’t win this time, try again! Just go to www.natcotech.com/estories.htm and tell us how using NATCO's Internet or e-mail service has made your life easier, helped you promote or manage your business, or simply how much you enjoy using the Internet and e-mail. If your E-Story is chosen, you'll win two months of free NATCO dialup Internet service ($19.95 X 2 = $39.90) or an equivalent credit on your DSL or ISDN account.

  • Latest Virus threat for Microsoft Windows
A new threat of virus and Trojan horse attacks has emerged (Norton advisory, Microsoft advisory).  A virus may infect computers by exploiting a security hole found in the engine which handles images. Microsoft advises users to "take care not to visit unfamiliar or un-trusted Web sites that could potentially host the malicious code." Microsoft also reassures that "At this point, we have not identified any scenario where a user can be attacked simply by reading an e-mail."

To minimize the threats these malicious programs cause, ensure you download the latest updates for Windows (windowsupdate.microsoft.com) and use antivirus software like Norton or AVG.
