  • Copyright Infringement Laws Are Clear
Although it has become a common practice for some to download music and movies from the Internet, don't misunderstand the law. It is illegal to download and use any copyrighted material regardless of the source unless you have purchased the material from the manufacturer or have the written consent of the owners of such material.

This is a matter that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA) take very seriously. On top of prosecuting violators, both industries are increasing focus on creating new and better ways to detect Internet users who have downloaded copyrighted material without consent. To recording artists and movie makers, this act is considered theft and is not something they are willing to overlook or disregard. The RIAA "...has sued 341 peer-to-peer users since September to deter a practice that the industry believes cuts into CD sales." (source: HoustonChronicle.com)

  • Winning E-Story Submitted by Jim Lambert of Flippin - Dialup Customer

E-Story: The hardest time I had was when my brother Casey was stationed in Kuwait earlier this year. I watched on TV as his Marine Corps unit went into Iraq. Due to NATCO e-mail I was able to receive e-mail from him with pictures each and everyday. But my family could not explain the joy that came over us when we got the e-mail that said, "I am Coming Home" last week.

Thank you, NATCO. I could not imagine what families went thru, in other wars, without NATCO Internet service, to know their loved ones were safe.

  • Thanks to all of you who submitted your Internet E-Story this month. Jim Lambert just earned two free months of NATCO Internet service. Submit your E-Story and get a chance to become our next winner! Remember that you can enter more than once so if you didn't win this time, try again! Just go to www.natcotech.com/estories.htm and tell us how using NATCO's Internet or e-mail service has made your life easier, helped you promote or run your business, or simply how much you enjoy using the Internet and e-mail. If your E-Story is chosen, you'll win two months free NATCO dial up Internet Service or an equivalent account credit!

  • Useful Web Sites
    http://www.ozarkregionaldirectory.com/
NATCO's Online Yellow Pages - the same yellow pages found in the directory are now online so you can find the local businesses you need in an easy to read format without leaving your computer. The online yellow pages allow you to browse by categories listed alphabetically - like the yellow pages in the directory - or you can search for a category name.

If you already know which business you are looking for, skip the categories and jump right to searching by business name! What could be faster or easier?

  • Customers Respond to NATCO Technologies E-Mail Filtering Service
If spam (unsolicited advertisements, junk mail) is making your e-mail experience less than enjoyable, there is something you can do. NATCO Technologies offers an anti-spam filtering service available only to NATCO Tech customers. Although no program can totally eliminate spam, our filter will significantly reduce the amount of spam you receive.

Recently, we heard from some customers who have already added this service to their accounts:

"Just a quick note to tell you that your spam filter service has really helped me trim down the junk mail I receive. I now have more time to do my 'real work.' Thank you!"

"Thanks for adding the spam protection - it really is helping! YOU people are doing great!  Keep up the good work!"

To add the filtering service to your account for an additional investment of only $1.99 a month and a one-time $10 additional services fee, call NATCO in Flippin at 1-800-775-6682 or Brooks-Jeffrey Marketing in Mountain Home at 425-8064.

  • Tech Tips
Protect Your System with These Basic Ways to Avoid Viruses
    1. Do not open any files attached to e-mail from an unknown or suspicious source.
    2. Do not open any files attached to e-mail unless you know what it is, even if it appears to come from a family member or friend. Some viruses can replicate themselves and spread through e-mail. Be cautious and confirm with the sender.
    3. Do not open any files attached to e-mail if the subject line is questionable.
    4. Regularly update your anti-virus software. Check the software's site for instructions and additional information:
      www.norton.com
      www.mcafee.com
      www.grisoft.com (AVG)

  • Recent Virus Threats
If you determine that your computer is infected with a virus, visit your virus software's Web site for removal instructions or contact the technician at the store where you purchased your system.
