  • NATCO Technologies Stays Informed
Recently, Microsoft posted an Update for Windows XP on their update Web site. Soon, it became evident that the update was causing problems for many who downloaded it. Apparently, the update was not compatible with some other well-known programs including certain Symantec programs. After downloading and installing the update, some users were unable to connect to the Internet. Users who experienced this problem had to completely remove the update from their systems before the problem was solved.

We realize it can be worrisome to know that even programs from such trusted sources as Microsoft can cause seemingly serious problems on your computer system. That's why our Internet technicians stay informed about issues like this. When you call the Internet Trouble line to report problems with your system, we do our best to give you fast and effective help and information about the cause of your problem and how to resolve it. If you experience any problems with your service, please call
Internet Technical Support at 425-7325 in Baxter County, 453-8822 in Flippin, or 1-800-775-6682 for Yellville, Harrison and other areas.
Dial Up
  • Are You Always Online?
We featured Email Etiquette tips in several previous issues. This month, we’d like to address an Internet Etiquette issue. Although our dialup Internet service is “unlimited," this doesn’t mean that it should always be on. Our dialup service is designed to be there when you need it, however your computer shouldn’t be online when you are not using the Internet. Remember that you are sharing Internet resources with other users and it benefits those other users if you go offline when your connection is not in use. If all our customers use their Internet service conscientiously, NATCO Technologies can continue to provide the exceptional service at the reasonable rate you expect.

Aside from helping your fellow user, there are other reasons to disconnect from the Internet when you are not using it. Having your computer idle online for long periods of time can increase your system’s vulnerability to hackers, viruses and other troublesome issues. Also, computers function better when they are shutdown regularly. It is a good idea to shutdown your computer whenever you are not using it. Many technical issues are solved simply by rebooting your system. Shutting down your computer every night or whenever it is not in use allows your system to start fresh every time.

  • Children Online
If you have Internet savvy children, remember to monitor the web Sites they visit. There are many programs on the market that can help you do just that. Programs like Net Nanny (www.netnanny.com) and Software4parents (software4parents.com) help you set limits to what your child has access to and can also allow you to record e-mail, chat, instant messages and even passwords that your children use, send or receive while online.

  • Learn How to Send Attachments
If you aren't quite sure how to go about sending an attachment in an e-mail message, this one's for you.

First, open a new mail message, address it to the receiver and type your message just like you ordinarily would. Now add an attachment: Click the button that says Attach. This button has a paperclip graphic on it. The window that opens will allow you to browse to the file's location. Once you have selected the file you want to attach to your message, click Attach and then click Send. That's it - you've just sent your first attachment!

Find out more about using your Internet and e-mail service by visiting the NATCO Technologies Technical Support Bulletin Board or by registering to take our free Internet Quick Class.*

    * The Internet Quick Class is free to one student per account and can only be taken free of charge once per account. Additional students and/or classes are $35 each. Please call Brooks-Jeffrey Marketing in Mountain Home at 425-8064 to schedule your class today.
