- Macintosh Users
Become Targets of Worms and Viruses
For many years Macintosh
computers have been touted as systems free from spyware, viruses, worms,
trojans, and the various vulnerabilities that plague Windows users;
however, lately that perceived invincibility may be changing.
Through Apple's iChat program, a worm named "Leap" spreads
causing damage to the operating system as well as other files on the
system. Sending out automated messages promising friends of the infected
victim sneak peeks at Apple's newest operating system, the program
deceives its victims into downloading and running a copy of itself. More
information on Leap may be found here.
"Ingtana"
is a new worm which exploits flaws and default settings in Safari.
Taking advantage of Safari's ability to open .zip files with virtually
no user interaction, the virus can be installed by simply visiting a
dangerous Web site. More information on Ingtana may be found here.
The
safest way to avoid these security holes is to update your operating
system regularly, and install and update an anti-virus client regularly.
- Upgrade to DSL -
FREE Modem for a Limited Time Only
NATCO offers high-speed DSL
Internet service which allows users to surf the Internet and download at
much faster speeds than dial-up connections. For the months of March and
April, our modems will be supplied for free with an 18 month contract.
Our DSL plans start as low as $29.95 per month for residential and
business customers. For more information on DSL service, visit natcotech.com/dsl.htm or call
1-800-775-6682 for availability.
Call today and sign up for an
eighteen month contract, and we will waive the $95 activation fee and
give you a free modem! Call NATCO at 1-800-775-6682 or in Baxter
Country call Brooks-Jeffrey Computer Store at 425-8064.
- What Steps
Are Involved in Setting Up a DSL Connection?
After applying
for a DSL connection through NATCO (1-800-775-6682), you will receive a
special DSL modem. Each phone in your house will require a small inline
filter (three filters are supplied with the modem and more are available
from NATCO). Connect an unfiltered phone line to your modem. Connect the
modem to your computer (through a USB cable or a Network cable - both
supplied with the modem). Turn on your computer and enjoy the speed and
reliability of a DSL connection. If you still feel uncomfortable setting
up your DSL connection, call the toll free tech support number
(1-888-276-8059). |

- Winning E-Story
Submitted by: April Turner
My son is in the Navy stationed in
Japan. Usually the only way we have contact with him is by
e-mail. It has been very hard with him being so far from home, but
at least I can hear from him if only from an e-mail message. Sometimes
that is all it takes to make my day better.
April
Turner just earned two free months of NATCO Internet service!
Submit your E-Story today and you could be our next winner! Remember
that you can enter more than once. So, if you didn't win this time, try
again! Just go to www.natcotech.com/estories.htm
and tell us how using NATCO's Internet or e-mail service has made your
life easier, helped you promote or manage your business, or simply how
much you enjoy using the Internet and e-mail. If your E-Story is chosen,
you'll win two months of free NATCO dialup Internet service ($19.95 X 2
= $39.90) or an equivalent credit on your DSL or ISDN account.
- Backing Up
E-mail in Outlook Express
Do you ever worry about losing all of
your e-mails? Hard drive failure, power surges, viruses, and accidental
deletion can make retrieval of your prized e-mails very difficult or
even, in some cases, impossible. If you use Outlook Express as an
e-mail client, all of your e-mails are stored in folders. Each folder
corresponds to a ".dbx file" on your computer. For example, your Inbox
folder is stored on your computer as "Inbox.dbx". Backing up your
e-mails is as simple as copying these dbx files to a safe location
(write them to a CD, copy them to a USB flash drive, or perhaps to a
floppy or multiple floppies). Restoring your backup is as easy as
overwriting the current dbx files with your backed up dbx files. A
step-by-step guide to backing up your Outlook Express e-mails may be
found at: http://email.about.com/od/outlookexpresstips/ss/wt102502.htm. |
