Looking for that hilarious joke your brother sent you and can't find it among all your many other e-mails? Don't sweat it - let Outlook Express find it for you. Outlook Express has a very useful feature called "Find Message" that can help you find a specific e-mail. Located on the toolbar is a button with the word "Find." Clicking this button opens a panel that allows you to search for e-mails by several means. Some of the criteria include: "From:" "To:" "Subject:" and "Message:" If all you can remember is a word or phrase from the e-mail, for example, you can type it in the "Message" box, and Outlook Express will display every e-mail you have that contains that word or phrase. At the top of the panel is a box labeled "Look in:" This tells Outlook Express where to search. Click the Browse button to choose a folder to search, such as your Inbox, or choose Local Folders to search them all. This is just one of the many helpful tips covered in the Internet QuickClass held at Brooks-Jeffrey Marketing. If you'd like to attend, call Brooks-Jeffrey Marketing at 425-8064. E-Mail: Disconnection problems Are you being disconnected every time you check your e-mail? If so, you may be able to correct the problem by simply changing a setting in Outlook Express. Click on Tools just above the toolbar, then click Options, and then click on Connection. You should see a line that reads, "Hang up after sending and receiving." If this option is checked, you've found the culprit. Click on it to uncheck it; that should solve the problem. If you continue to have trouble with your connection, call the NATCO Technologies help desk: 453-8822, 425-7325 or 449-5087. Dialup: DSL now available in Mtn. Web pages: Search tips Searching for information on the Internet can be frustrating at times. You know what you're looking for, but you keep getting results you're not interested in. And who has the time to look through 200,000 Web sites? There are some things you can do to narrow down your searches. By using these tips, you can narrow your searches considerably, and eliminate many of those Web sites that have nothing to do with what you're really looking for. The key is to try and be as specific as possible. If you type car, for instance, you will get far more results than you really want, and far more than if you type in Ford. To further narrow it down, type Mustang. Now, here's a tip: try putting the two in quotation marks, like this - "Ford Mustang." This tells a search engine to find only Web sites that contain both words, and in that order. Here's another tip: try using the plus and minus signs (+ and -). These symbols tell a search engine to include or exclude a word. For example, if you type in the word Homer, the search engine will find every Web site it can that contains the word Homer. That will include every Web site about Homer Simpson, Homer, the Greek author, anyone who's name is Homer, and so on. If you happen to only be interested in the town of Homer, Alaska, try typing this: Homer -Simpson. This tells the search engine not to include Web sites with the word Simpson, which, in turn, will shorten the list of results considerably. You could also type Homer +Alaska, which tells the search engine that both words must be in the Web site to be included in the results. Your chances of finding Web sites about Homer, Alaska are now greatly increased. These are just a few of the many helpful tips covered in the Internet QuickClass held at Brooks-Jeffrey Marketing. If you'd like to attend, call Brooks-Jeffrey Marketing at 425-8064. Web site owners: Get the Webalizer If you have a Web site, you probably often wonder who's visiting it and when, as well as how they are finding it. Don't keep wondering - get the Webalizer and find out! The Webalizer keeps track of all sorts of helpful information such as how many visits your site is getting, when they are occurring (even down to the hour of day), and how visitors are finding your site, whether it be through search engines or links from other Web sites. As a service to our customers, NATCO offers a free Webalizer class. Held at Brooks-Jeffrey Marketing, the class is free to any NATCO customers who would like to attend. Many local business owners have already benefited from the class. If you'd
like to take advantage of the free class, please call Brooks-Jeffrey Marketing
at (870) 425-8064 for the times and dates of upcoming classes. Natco Net News Volume 2, Issue 10 Archives of Natco Net News are available online at http://www.natcotech.com/newsletter/. Questions?
