- Winning
E-Story Submitted by: Sandra
Heston
My
parents live in Santa Barbara, California, so we would keep in touch
by e-mail. But when my mother passed away in May of this year, I have
been able to contact my father every day, by using e-mail. I would
not have been able to afford to keep calling California to keep in touch
with my father on a daily basis, without using your service. My father
looks forward to reading my e-mails every day!!
Thank you, NATCO!! Sandra Heston.

- Virus Dials
Long Distance Numbers
Since our last edition, NATCO Tech worked with a customer whose computer
was infected with a Trojan dialer. According to the caller, the Trojan
dialer changed his dialup profile slightly - from NATCO to NATCO lll
- which made it harder for the customer to see that something had changed.
The result was it dialed a long distance number, and his long distance
charges ran to over $300.
One published report said the dialer was found in a cracked (pirated)
version of Mosquitos 2.0, a popular game for Symbian Series 60 smartphones.
The malicious code dials premium rate numbers without a user’s consent.
The problem was only affecting pirated copies of the game. Regular copies
of the game remain safe.
It is important to guard against viruses. Do so by being careful what
sites you visit, what e-mail you open, and keep your anti-virus software
up to date and checking your computer every week, at the minimum. Protecting
yourself from viruses is an individual’s responsibility, rather
than a part of your Internet service provider’s service.
