End of Support
for Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1
NATCO Technologies does not endorse or
recommend any software or program. The purpose of the articles
included in this newsletter is to keep our customers informed.
Microsoft has scheduled October 10, 2006 to end support for Windows
XP Service Pack 1. What will this mean for end users? Microsoft
recommends that users running Service Pack 1 upgrade to Service
Pack 2.
If you are running Windows XP, you can determine if you already
have Service Pack 2 by holding down the "Windows
key" on your keyboard and pressing the "Pause/Break" key on your keyboard. A window will open up with information about your computer.
Under the "System:" heading, the Service Pack number will be listed.
To update your system, go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and
select the "Express" button. The update software will scan your system and allow you to install Service
Pack 2 if needed.
More information about this news is available on Microsoft's
site.

E-mail Scams:
Fake Credit Card Verification
Recently, there have been many scams attempting
to trick users into surrendering their credit card information
to thieves. One such example, commonly called "phishing" in Internet jargon, is displayed below.
VISA Security Measures.
Dear VISA Member,
Your account has been randomly flagged in our system as a part
of our routine security measures. This is a must to ensure that
only you have access and use of your VISA Credit Union Credit Card
( Debit ) account and to ensure a safe VISA experience. We require
all flagged accounts to verify their information on file with us.
To verify your information at this time, please visit our secure
server webform by clicking the link below:
https://www.visa.com/verified-by-visa/login.asp
If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but
to temporarily suspend your account.
Thank you for your patience as we work together to protect your
account.
The specific link has been deactivated since the scammer was discovered.
Upon examining the link, it appears to go to https://www.visa.com/verified-by-visa/login.asp;
however, if you click the link, it really goes to http://211.233.7.34:84/www.visa.com/verified-by-visa/ /security/login/visa.html, which is not on
a visa.com server. It is common practice to trick people into going
to a different Web site and typing in their credit card information
in order to make charges to their credit cards.
Another tactic commonly found in these scams is the use of fear to
drive people to make a decision with out thinking things through.
The scammer claimed "If
you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to temporarily
suspend your account." in an attempt to rush the victim to fall for the trap.

Winning E-Story
Submitted by: Fran Horensky
I am a grandmother with some of the children
in Dallas and here. With the Internet, I am able to keep up with
them all. Thanks to their parents, pictures arrive and it's like
being there with them. It doesn't feel like we have missed anything.
The most wonderful thing is that now they are able to use the computer,
and I can read all the things they are doing. It's a wonderful
connection to people when they are near or far.
Fran Horensky just earned two free months of NATCO Internet service!
Submit your E-Story today and you could be our next winner! Remember
that you can enter more than once. So, if you didn't win this time,
try again! Just go to www.natcotech.com/estories.htm and
tell us how using NATCO's Internet or e-mail service has made your
life easier, helped you promote or manage your business, or simply
how much you enjoy using the Internet and e-mail. If your E-Story
is chosen, you'll win two months of free NATCO dialup Internet
service ($19.95 X 2 = $39.90) or an equivalent credit on your DSL
or ISDN account.
