NATCO
is making available to all of our Internet customers
a spam e-mail filtering service to largely eliminate
unsolicited e-mail in customers' mailboxes. The cost
of this service is $1.99 per month.
The
filtering technology identifies spam by analyzing the
header and the body of the e-mail message, looking for
specific content, patterns and style elements. It also
uses several Internet-based real-time blacklists. These
blacklists contain known spammer e-mail servers which
help the program even more precisely identify unwanted
messages.
The
following levels of filtering are available to you and
you may pick which one you want to use:
- Medium
– a high percentage of spam filtered, a few
false positives are possible.
-
High – A higher percentage of spam filtered,
more likely to have false positives.
A
false positive is an e-mail that the filtering software
marks as spam when it is actually a message you want
to receive. All e-mail that is marked as spam will be
put into a special Bulk Mail folder that can be viewed
using Natco's Web Mail service, located at https://webmail.natcotech.com.
You may check this folder at any time. While using NATCO’s
Web Mail, you can delete all of the spam messages or,
in the event of a false positive, you can move the message
to your INBOX. Any e-mail that remains in the Bulk Mail
folder longer than fourteen (14) days will be automatically
deleted. Please be sure to check your spam mailbox occasionally
so only messages you don’t want are deleted.
How
it works:
The
filter uses a series of filtering rules to test an e-mail
message and assigns a point value for each rule violation
that it finds. After all tests are complete, the total
score is used to determine whether an e-mail should
be delivered to you or filtered out as spam. The filter
has varying accuracy depending on the level you choose
from above. In the event of a false positive, you may
use the following procedure to recover the message:
- Open your Internet browser software, such as Microsoft
Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
- Go to https://webmail.natcotech.com
and log in using your user
name and password.
NOTE: The first time you do this, you will be asked
to enter your full name and then click on the SUBMIT
button at the bottom of the page.
- Click on the Bulk
Mail folder at left and it will display all the
e-mail that has been identified as spam.
- You can go through all these messages and move the
ones you want to keep to the INBOX.
- After checking all the e-mails that were filtered
into Bulk Mail, you can delete them by clicking on
the [Empty] link
next to the Bulk Mail folder.
